Back in 2018, Tuscaloosa Magazine gave readers a peek behind the scenes of what it looks like to “go to market.” They followed me to Atlanta, where floors upon floors of vendors showcase what’s new and what’s next in the world of fashion. For me, the market is like stepping into a giant dream closet……..it’s exciting, overwhelming, and full of possibilities.
But the market isn’t just about shopping. It’s about a vision. It’s about listening, learning, and carefully choosing pieces that will inspire the women who walk into my boutique. Every decision matters because what I bring home sets the tone for the season ahead.
You have to trust your instincts, think ahead, and pick items you believe will resonate. And yes, sometimes you win big and the racks clear out instantly. Other times, you learn and adjust for the next season.
As I look back now, I see something even deeper: going to market is a lot like walking by faith.
In Proverbs 16:9, we’re reminded that “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” When I go to market, I may have a list, a budget, and a plan… but ultimately, I’ve learned to invite God into the process. He knows the women who will walk through my doors long before I do. He knows what will make them feel beautiful, confident, and strong.
My job is to abide in Him, trust His guidance, and let Him direct my steps (even through the busy aisles of Atlanta’s AmericasMart).
Just like every outfit starts with a vision, every season in life starts with trust. When we abide in Christ, He equips us to carry the right things home
Not just clothing and accessories, but peace, wisdom, and joy. And those never go out of style.
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” —Proverbs 16:3
